Kingstree - Vera Mae Holmes Burgess age 77, died February 8, 2019 in a Georgetown hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 O'clock pm Sunday February 10, 2019 at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel in Olanta with burial in Burgess Cemetery in New Zion. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Born in Georgetown County, she was a daughter of the late John Oliver Holmes and Mittie Lee Shokes Holmes. She was a dietician in the healthcare industry and was former owner of The Carriage House Restaurant in Olanta. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Smith Burgess, Jr., and a brother Donald Allen Holmes. Surviving are a sister; Judy (Charles) Allen of Effingham, brothers; Johnny Dalton Holmes of Georgetown, David Oliver Holmes of Kingstree, Jackie Lynn (Cynthia) Holmes of Brandon, FL., Special nieces and nephews; Michelle (Jay) Phillips of Florence, John Craig Holmes of Brandon, FL., and Jack Christopher Holmes of Charlotte, NC.
