NEW ZION – William Glenn Gibbons, Sr., 76, husband of Maurice Dennis Gibbons, entered his eternal rest on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born April 7, 1948, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Thomas Hazel Gibbons and the late Annie Bell Gowdy Gibbons. He was the former owner and operator of G&S Sign Company in Sumter. He attended Eastside Baptist Church of Sumter. He is survived by his wife of 55 years; two children, Denise (Hank) Todd of Sumter and Will (Tracy) Gibbons of Lake City; two grandchildren, William (Kaitlyn) Gibbons of Sumter and Laney Gibbons of Lake City; two great grandchildren, Pearl Gibbons and Felicity Gibbons; one sister, Charlotte Tisdale of Turbeville; a nephew, Alex (Lisa) Tisdale; a special cousin and friend, Rev. Bobby Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Larry Gibbons. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at New Hope Christian Church with Rev. Bobby Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the New Town Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Morris, Alex Tisdale, Jimmy Morris, Johnny Baird, Charlie Scurry, and Jamie Gowdy. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service in New Hope Christian Church and at other times at the residence, 3276 Newman Branch Road, New Zion.
